Sumter High School

Wofford's Interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Students may choose from a variety of on-campus courses, professional internships and research projects, study abroad opportunities or their own independent study project, approved and guided by a faculty advisor. More than 200 students chose to study abroad during Interim 2014.

A total of 455 students marched in Coastal Carolina University's fall commencement ceremony Dec. 13, the largest group to participate in December graduation exercises at CCU. Approximately 590 total candidates were eligible to receive degrees. Commencement speaker Edgar L. Dyer, longtime CCU professor and administrator, spoke about the importance of universal public education in the advancement of free and civil societies.

Advancing leadership is an important component of USC's role as the flagship university of South Carolina and its dedication to educating the future leaders of SC, the nation, and the world.

More than 100 USC Sumter are the recipients of merit scholarships.

Study abroad is a major component of Wofford's commitment to shaping globally connected citizens. Opportunities range from travel/study Interim projects to a full-year at a university abroad. Students may choose from more than 200 programs and 59 countries. Co-curricular opportunities include service learning, internships and cultural excursions.

To qualify for inclusion, the student must have completed at least 30 hours at a University of South Carolina campus with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.00, and have achieved a 3.5 - 3.94 grade-point average for the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters while being registered each semester for 12 or more hours on the Sumter campus, of which at least six hours must be USC Sumter courses.

USC Sumter recognizes the elite Ambassadors for our campus. Ambassadors serve as leaders at SOAR (orientation), provide tours for potential students, assist with recruitment events and represent the campus at all times.

Dr. Nayef H. Samhat delivered his first commencement address since becoming Wofford College's president at the 160th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Degrees were conferred to about 360 graduates. Samhat became president in July 2013 and his inauguration was held April 25 of this year.

Clemson University has announced the Dean's List for the spring 2014 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale. More than 1,600 students have made the Spring 2014 Dean's List for academic achievement at Coastal Carolina University.

Wofford College held its annual spring Honors Convocation on Tuesday, May 6.

Coastal Carolina University has announced that nearly 500 students have made the President's honor list for high academic achievement for the Spring Semester 2014.

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, has honored the following Dean's List students for academic excellence during the fall semester of the 2013-2014 academic year. Dean's List recognition is given to those students registered for 12 or more semester hours whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester's work.

Coastal Carolina University welcomes the Class of 2017. Over 2,200 first-year students have enrolled in CCU for the Fall 2013 semester.

Four Wofford College juniors are spending the summer observing world leaders, celebrities, musicians and politicians while interning with the Aspen Institute, an international educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C. The students will work at the institute's Aspen, Colo., campus during June, July and August.

Coastal Carolina University has released names of students who earned the Dean's List status for the Spring 2013 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade point average, and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average. All students must be enrolled full time.
